MEET THE FOUNDER

Mallory Gargan

20 years at the intersection of beauty, wellness, education, and transformation.

Throughout my career, my work has centered around helping women feel better in their skin, connect deeper to their bodies, and become more empowered in their own wellbeing.

What began in the beauty and spa industry grew into a lifelong exploration of the many ways we heal, nourish, transform, and come home to ourselves.

Today, I bring those worlds together through Alchemy of a Woman integrating beauty, functional nutrition, herbal medicine, nervous system awareness, holistic wellness, and self-discovery into an educational space designed to support the whole woman.

EXPERIENCE + CREDENTIALS

Two Decades of Beauty + Wellness

My work has never fit neatly into one discipline. Over the course of my career, I’ve followed my curiosity across the interconnected worlds of skin, beauty, nutrition, herbs, therapeutic bodywork, nervous system health, and education building a perspective shaped by both professional training and lived experience.

MY JOURNEY

From Beauty to Whole-Person Wellness

My career began in 2006 at The Bathhouse at Calistoga Ranch, where I entered the world of luxury spa and wellness. I became a licensed esthetician in 2010 and began my early career in medical aesthetics, working alongside physicians and helping clients address complex skin concerns while rediscovering confidence in their appearance.

But even then, I was interested in more than what I could see on the surface.

In 2012, I became a Certified Massage Therapist and Health Educator, expanding my work from the skin into the body. I went on to spend more than a decade as a Master Lash Artist, became a multi-certified beauty educator, taught other professionals, built a thriving clientele, owned and operated numerous private practices throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, launched my skin care line I Am Skin, and opened my own beauty and wellness salon Lily Lash.

Then 2020 changed everything.

When the pandemic closed my business, I made the difficult decision not to reopen the studio I had built. What initially looked like an ending became an opportunity to ask a much bigger question: What did I want the next chapter of my work to become?

By then, my interests had already moved far beyond traditional beauty. My own experiences and health challenges had led me deeply into nutrition, physiology, herbal medicine, stress, trauma, the nervous system, and the relationship between our internal health and the way we experience ourselves externally.

I pursued more than two years of specialized functional nutrition education mentored by Functional Medicine Nutritionist Andrea Nakayama, learning to view the body through interconnected physiological systems and to recognize the profound individuality of our responses to food, environment, lifestyle, stress, and nourishment.

I then studied herbal medicine full-time for another 2 years at the California School of Herbal Studies, completing both the Roots of Herbalism and advanced Community Herbalist programs. My continued education expanded into trauma-informed care (The National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine), nervous system health (Camille Freeman), trauma-informed herbalism (Dr. Elizabeth Guthrie), and CranioSacral Therapy (The Upledger Institute) and more.

Each chapter added another piece to the same puzzle.

Skin taught me to look beneath the surface. Bodywork taught me to listen. Functional nutrition taught me to think in systems. Herbalism deepened my relationship with the natural world. Trauma-informed education changed the way I understood safety, behavior, and transformation.

Alchemy of a Woman is where those pieces all come together.

WHEN THE WORK BECAME PERSONAL

Beginning in 2011, my professional curiosity became deeply personal when my own health began to unravel.

I spent years searching for answers; reading, studying, taking courses, working with practitioners, experimenting with different approaches, and trying to understand why a body could struggle so much even when someone seemed to be doing everything “right.”

That search fundamentally changed the way I understood wellness.

I began to see that the body cannot always be separated into tidy categories. Digestion doesn't exist independently of the nervous system. Skin doesn't exist independently of nutrition. Stress doesn't remain confined to the mind. Our environment, relationships, history, nourishment, sleep, movement, beliefs, and daily patterns continually interact with our physiology.

And what supports one person beautifully may not be what another person needs at all.

That realization became one of the most important principles behind my work today: there is no single perfect way to be well.

The goal isn't to become better at following someone else's rules. It's to become more capable of understanding yourself.

SELF-DISCOVERY

Lasting transformation is about learning to listen inward, recognizing patterns, and making choices that support the life you want to create.

NATURE + HERBALISM

Plants reconnect us with traditions of care that existed long before modern wellness and invite us into a deeper relationship with the natural world.

The Whole Woman Matters

MY APPROACH

Over the years, I've become less interested in separating wellness into isolated categories and more interested in understanding the relationships between them. Alchemy of a Woman is built around that interconnected view.

BEAUTY + SKIN

Beauty isn't superficial. Our skin can reflect our internal and external environments, and caring for it can be both science and ritual.

NERVOUS SYSTEM

How safe, supported, and regulated we feel can influence the way we experience nearly every other part of our lives.

NOURISHMENT

Food is information, medicine, pleasure, culture, connection, and one of the ways we communicate with our physiology every day.

WHY ALCHEMY OF A WOMAN

A Different Kind of Wellness Space

After years of working closely with women; in treatment rooms, spas, classrooms, wellness spaces, and thousands of conversations I wanted to create something larger and more accessible than a traditional practice.

Alchemy of a Woman is the culmination of that journey.

It's a place where science and intuition don't have to compete. Where beauty can sit beside nutrition, herbs beside neuroscience, ritual beside research, and personal growth beside practical tools for everyday life.

Most importantly, it's a place designed to help you become an active participant in your own wellbeing.

Through education, experiences, nourishing resources, skincare, programs, and community, my hope is to give you more than another list of things you're supposed to do.

I want to help you understand the why, explore what resonates, build practices that belong in your life, and discover what becomes possible when you begin working with yourself instead of constantly trying to fix yourself.

THE VISION

I envision a world where pain is no longer something we wear as an identity.

Where we don't measure our worth by how much we can carry, how exhausted we are, or how well we can push through.

What if we challenged one another to experience more joy?

More connection. More gratitude. More beauty. More pleasure. More curiosity. More abundance.

What if transformation didn't have to begin with believing something is wrong with us?

Let's see how good it can get.
